Project Vidya completes one year
Essel Infra’s ‘Project Vidya’ has completed one year. Through the project, Essel Infra has shown its commitment to the education of the girl child and the overall development of the Gorai-Manori-Uttan region.

Project Vidya initiated by Essel Infraprojects Ltd as part of its commitment to the growth and development of the Gorai-Manori-Uttan region, has completed one year. Through this project Essel Infra has given priority to the education of the girl child and the overall development of the region.
Project Vidya was started on the occasion of Children’s Day in 2007. What started as a small effort with just 40 girls from below the poverty line families living in the vicinity of Marve-Malawani, the project now caters to 125 girls. These girls are studying in the various aided and unaided schools of the region.
Apart from this in the past one year, Essel Infra has provided ferry services much to the relief of the local residents of the island. As the Marve-Manori ferry operated by the contractor appointed by BMC broke down in November 2007, the ferry of Esselworld was requested for the purpose of commuting. This ferry was also used by a large student community living on both the sides of the Manori creek.
Essel Infra CEO R Venkataramana said, “We are always willing to go out of our way to help the people of the villages in their times of need. After receiving a request from parents of students of the BMC School at Gorai, it was decided to support the children with bus passes for their daily commuting. As the school is run by BMC, the students get everything from books, stationery, uniforms, raincoats and boots. Yet, they remain absent as the families are so poor that there is no money to take care of their daily travel to school. Finally the students loose interest and drop out from mainstream education. We, at Essel Infraprojects Ltd decided to fill this gap by providing 50 students with bus passes, from the Children’s Day this year.”
