Dr. Subhash Chandra addresses the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO), Kolkata

Dr. Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group engaged in an exclusive tete-a-tete with journalist Suman Chattopadhyay at an event organised by the Kolkata chapter of the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) on December 04, 2014 at the Hotel Oberoi Grand in Kolkata.

Dr. Chandra spoke about his entrepreneurial journey and also shared some invaluable advice on developing one's entrepreneurial abilities and skills with the audience. "An entrepreneur always sees the problem as an opportunity and takes ownership of that decision," he said.

Referring to his interaction with the students at St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, he commented, "Students today are very aspirational. They always want more. I believe that unless you aspire or dream for more, you cannot come out from your current situation. We are responsible for our own situation."

Earlier in the day, Dr. Chandra addressed the Kolkata media and shared with them the Essel Group's plans for the West Bengal market. He informed them of the Group's desire to invest in smart cities, power distribution and a hydel project in W. Bengal. Essel Infrastructure has already initiated discussion with the W. Bengal government on developing smart cities in this state. "We have made an offer to the West Bengal government. The state government is now appointing a consultant to create a bid document for the project. Since the states are new to these concepts and ideas we have suggested that as an experiment give us any city with a population of more than 5 lakh - the minimum size to make the project viable - and once the experiment is successful, we can do more cities," Dr. Subhash Chandra commented.

Speaking about the media businesses, Dr. Chandra revealed that the target is to reach 1.4 billion viewers by 2020 by reaching out to newer geographies across the globe. He said "In the journey of 22 years of ZEE, from a base of 8 million homes watching Zee TV, we have now almost 200 million homes or 928 million viewers in 170 countries. Next year we are going to launch content in Spanish and Portuguese languages in the Latin American countries."
