Essel Vision's FANDRY received top honor of National Award 2013-14
Essel Vision Productions' film FANDRY, undoubtedly the most acclaimed film of the year has raised the bar to a new high by winning two awards at the 61st National Awards. Somnath Avghade won the Best Child Actor while the Best Debutant Director trophy went to director Nagraj Manjule. With this new feather added to their cap, the whole team of FANDRY is extremely excited. FANDRY is produced by Navalakha Arts and Holy Basil Productions in association with Essel Vision Productions Ltd.
Talking about the great success, Nikhil Sane, Business Head, Essel Vision said, "It is an exciting and proud moment for the team. After Natarang, this is our second film which has received this great honor. We have trusted the efforts & vision of director Nagraj Manjule, producer Nilesh Navlakha (Navlakha Arts) and Vivek Kajaria (Holy Basil Productions) and now it feels like the perfect closure. The film has also received many international recognition and we are extremely proud of that." He added, "This is also an achievement for our Marathi Film Industry since it has received 9 National Awards in different categories."
FANDRY, have received many international prizes and enormous response in other international Film Festivals like the Jury Grand Prize for the 2nd best film in International Competition at the 15th edition of Mumbai Film Festival in Mumbai, Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Cinematographer and Viewer's Choice Award in Pune Internatinal Film Festival, Best Film Critics Award by International Federation of Film Critics - FIPRESCI India at the 6th Bengaluru International Film Festival and Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature film- Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles.
Nagraj Manjule is a person who has used his limitations as his strength in film 'Fandry', which has displayed a glimpse of life in a caste ridden rural India with rawness and simplicity. His first short film 'Pistulya' had also won a National Award in 2011 and after "Pistulya" Nagraj has made history by winning this great honour for his first feature film too. On receiving national and international recognition Nagraj Manjule, the director of FANDRY said, "The honors are not just for FANDRY but for all lovers of Marathi cinema who have whole-heartedly supported it through houseful theatres all across Maharashtra and much needed appreciation. It's my first feature film, a biopic of my own life. My journey with this film from inception till now has been very exciting and it's indeed an honor that in a year's time the movie has been going places gathering accolades from the audience and critics. This movie is for those people who experience inferiority complex on a personal as well as a societal level." Nagraj added, "However, in spite of receiving so many accolades from across the globe, I'm really touched and delighted with this recognition by my own country.” Recently FANDRY completed its glorious 50 days in theatres across Maharashtra."
