Essel Vision's film Killa bags two awards at MAMI after Berlin
Debutante director Avinash Arun's Marathi film 'Killa' has won two awards - Second Best Film; the Silver Gateway of India and Special Jury Mention for Ensemble Cast at the 16th Mumbai International Film Festival (MAMI) recently concluded in Mumbai. Actor Aamir Khan was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony, which was followed by the award function.
After receiving the prestigious Crystal Bear at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival and enormous response in other international Film Festivals, Killa has received thunderous praise at MAMI.Â After receiving huge applauds from international directors, Avinash Arun reacts, "I had not expected such an overwhelming response from international critics for the film."
Killa is a nostalgic revisiting of the director's past. Avinash said, "In my childhood, I traveled quite a lot and quite frequently because my father had a transferable job. Every place was a new experience. People were different, the culture was unique. By the time I would settle down, make friends, familiarize myself with the place and its culture, it was time to move on. Those were difficult times and now when I look back, all the people and the experiences shaped my personality, it was about growing up and accepting."
Killa is produced by MR Filmworks & JAR Pictures and presented by Essel Vision Productions Ltd. Talking about his journey with the film as a director, Avinash, said, "Killa is an attempt to cherish those moments. It's a film about my past, which has made my present. Coinciding with the closure of the film's stint at Film Festivals, Essel Vision is set to release the film in Feb 2015.
