Mumbai FC eases through HAL Bengaluru
In a must win clash, Mumbai FC thrashed HAL Bengaluru to go 7 points clear of the relegation zone. A superb display from the boys made it sure that the already relegated team HAL Bengaluru faced yet another defeat on their home turf. It was another listless performance from the hosts as they went down 1- 5.« Back
Mumbai FC's star was Gbeneme Friday, who struck a magnificent four, while Abhishek Yadav rounded off the tally. Friday began in the eighth minute, when he got the ball from Noel Wilson, went around the goalkeeper and slotted the ball in (8th minute). Mumbai's second goal was courtesy a penalty kick after Abhishek Yadav was brought down in the box. He scored without much fuss in the 21st.
HAL Bengaluru pulled one goal back, thanks to Ajit Kumar Singh in the 24th minute, when Rohit Chand lobbed the ball towards the goal from the left flank. Singh did well to head the ball in.
With the pressure building, HAL Bengaluru desperately required quick recovery. There was a flurry of attempts from the local team; some of the attempts were very good indeed, although they failed to capitalize on every opportunity.
HAL Bengaluru did well to break away from the midfield and also give the defense some jitters. But, more often than not, it was just one striker moving up with the ball but with little support.
Gbeneme Friday was back in the goal-scoring act in the 49th minute. After receiving the ball on the left, he let loose a powerful shot to the goal and there was virtually no resistance from HAL Bengaluru.
Mumbai FC's fourth goal (83rd) was when Dhanachandra Singh got past a thick HAL defence and entered the box. He then passed across and Gbeneme Friday scored easily.
The last goal, in the 87th, was the result of a defensive blunder from HAL Bengaluru. Gbeneme Friday collected the ball and he just had to get past HAL custodian Amar Deb to score.
