Mumbai FC wins the 105h Nadkarni Cup to begin the new season with a bang!

Mumbai FC began its 2011-12 football season in glorious fashion, being crowned champions of the 105th Nadkarni Cup at the RCF grounds in Chembur.

The 4-0 win for Mumbai FC over local rivals PIFA COLABA FC, victory couldn't have been any sweeter. The Mumbai FC senior team was playing in its second season of Nadkarni Cup.

With an average age of 23 years, team Mumbai FC always had the upper hand, exhibiting superior pace and controlling possession for most of the game. The two goal victory courtesy a brace from Lalawmpuia and also goals from new recruits Gbeneme Friday and Cavin Lobo who was deservedly conferred the Man of the Series award.

The intensity was high as was the quality on display.

The match began cautiously as it was apparent that both teams did not want to concede an early goal. For most of the opening period, both sides played equally well, making inroads into the opponent's half but they could not capitalize on the opportunities that came their way in the final third.

The roads to final was a hard fought one as the coach had an intent to test out the reserve team before the finals and the I League. Many of the junior were given a chance to showcase their talent throughout the league and the ones to stand out were Darren Caldeira, John Coutinho and Cavin Lobo.

The Team Manager Henry Picardo said, "It was a great victory for us and we are looking forward for the league to commence. Our team looks strong and we are ready to face the challenges ahead and grow from strength to strength."

This is the second season in a row that Mumbai FC has lifted the Nadkarni Cup. Up next is the big one, I League.

The club begins its I-League campaign against Air India on November 23rd 2011 in an away Mumbai derby in Pune.

Cheers for Mumbai FC!!!
