Mumbai sign Oscar Bruzon Barreras as Head Coach

Mumbai have appointed Spaniard Oscar Bruzon as the Head Coach for the remainder of the I-League 2016-17 season.


Born in Vigo, Spain, the 39-year-old Bruzon an UEFA 'A' level pro license holder comes with tremendous coaching experience at the highest level. Before accepting the Mumbai job, he was acting as an assistant manager to Fernando Vazquez at RCD Mallorca in Spain's Segunda (Second) Division. The Spaniard has previous experience of working in India and in the I-League after working with Sporting Club de Goa and helped the Goan club to 6th and 5th places finishes in 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons respectively, and in the Federation Cup where Sporting reached the final in 2013-14.


After signing on the dotted line for Mumbai and with the situation he faces, Óscar sounded quite optimistic and said, "I want the players to believe we can do it. I don't want to go further than the next match. We play Churchill Brothers next and that's our only focus right now."


On Oscar's arrival Atul Badgamia, Deputy Vice-President, Mumbai FC said, "We are not in the position we expected to be in the I-League at the beginning of the season. Óscar is a fantastic coach and he has our backing and support to help the club over the danger line."


Oscar landed in the city early Thursday morning and straight away got down to work by taking over a late afternoon training session as Mumbai prepare for their next match versus Churchill Brothers Goa at home on 8th April. Mumbai currently lie at the bottom of the I-League table with 10 points from 14 matches. Besides the Churchill game, the Mumbaikars, have three more home matches against Chennai City (April 16), Shillong Lajong (April 23) and East Bengal (TBD).
