More joy for Mumbaikars as they will see Pratik Chaudhari, Farukh Choudhary and Thoi Singh don the yellow jersey this season.
Manipuri lad Thoi Singh comes with a bag full of honours being part of the Bengaluru FC squad since 2013 and playing an influential role in winning two I-League titles in the process. Thoi has also been part of the Chennaiyin FC squad for the past two seasons and helped the Southern franchise to win the Indian Super League in 2015.
The 26 year-old showcased enthusiasm about his new adventure with Mumbai as he explained, "It feels great to be here. I will be playing for Mumbai this season. It's a great city and I am looking forward to play with my new teammates."
Mumbai extended Pratik Chaudhari's contract. The defender came into focus with strong performances at the back with Mumbai in the I-League last season. The 27 year-old made 13 I-League appearances for the Mumbaikars in 2015-16 and was part of the Mohun Bagan squad that won the I-League in 2014-15.
Pratik was ecstatic to be back after signing the extension as he said, "It feels good to be back. Mumbai is my home. I was born and brought up here, and it feels great to be playing for my city."
Mumbai also continued the trend of giving local talent a chance at the top level as Farukh Choudhary signed for the 2016-17 season. The youngster based out of Ambernath in Mumbai first came to prominence at Lonestar Kashmir in the I-League 2nd Division, as he scored five goals in 15 matches.
Farukh is a youth product of the disbanded Pune FC's academy where he scored four goals for the colts against Mohun Bagan's under-19 team in the IFA Shield.
On signing with Mumbai he said, "I am very excited to get this opportunity. Mumbai marks the beginning of my dream and I am really looking forward to playing under the guidance of a coach like Santosh Kashyap."
The coach expressed his delight on getting the three players on board as he said, "It's of great pleasure to have the three talented players as part of our team. I have known Thoi from his Mahindra United days. He has achieved a lot since then at his stints with Bengaluru and in the ISL. He is a very positive and attacking player with good speed and thrust."
Speaking about Farukh and Pratik, he continued, "Farukh is a talented boy, very speedy and skilful, and I hope he will achieve great heights here. Pratik started his career with me at Air India. Then he went to Mohun Bagan and was with me again at Rangdajied. He has improved a lot in a short time. I believe he will take the responsibility of Mumbai's defence line and has all the capabilities of a defender should have."
With the I-League only ten days away, Thoi, Pratik and Farukh will be slotted straight into training with the current squad as Santosh Kashyap's army continue pre-season preparations at full throttle.
