Zee News Empowering Nation - State Govt takes action within 12 hrs of telecast of the programme 'Mera Hero Bhagat Singh'

They gave everything to secure India's freedom, but their nation let them down. This is how modern India treats its brave sons and daughters who fought to safeguard the nation's pride. In a special programme - 'Mera Hero Bhagat Singh' - telecast on the 65th Independence day of India, Zee News raised the thought provoking issue of - poor condition of memorials of freedom fighters.

Zee News, as a responsible media house, highlighted the state of memorials of two most popular young freedom fighters – Chandra Sekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh- who fought with the Britishers fiercely and are considered still role models for the Indian youth. The programme was relayed on August 15th to pay tribute to heroes and drew attention to the deteriorating condition of memorials 'The Shaheed-e-azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Museum'  located at Khatkar Kalan, Bhagat Singh's native village and flourishing liquor business around 'Chandrasekhar Azad memorial'  located at Badarka Village, District Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. This is a picture perfect example of insult to our great heroes who sacrificed their lives to make India a free nation. The programme resulted in announcement by the state government of UP to shut down all the liquor shops around 'Chandrasekhar memorial' within 12 hours of the telecast of the show.

'Mera Hero Bhagat Singh' show was another effort by the leading Hindi news channel to draw people's attention towards relevant and thought provoking subjects. As a social watch dog Zee News has always been the pioneer in highlighting important issue to the nation.  The announcement by the UP government to shut down Liquor shops close to the memorial re-establishes Zee News' philosophy of “power of thought”- Jazba Soch Ka. It further reinforces its editorial policy of sticking to 'pure news' content. The channel is proud to uphold and is committed to deliver news that will bring about productive changes in people and society.
