Zee Punjabi once again set its stage to pay rich tributes to legendry singer Mohamad Rafi on his 87th birth anniversary at Kotla Sultan Singh, near Amritsar on December 24th, 2011.

A rich musical treat' Rafi Dilan Da Hani' hooked the audience this year again for more than 2 hours and was well attended by a larger number of people and eminent personalities from film and music industry and heavy weight politicians of the area as well.

Bollywood singer Shabbir Ahmed Sheikh popularly known as Shabbir Kumar was a star attraction who belted out Rafi's evergreen songs. Shabbir was successful in reviving Rafi's presence, virtually, among audience by his singing as his voice starkly matches the tone of legendary singer Mohd Rafi. Audience was all gaga about Priyanka Mitra who came all the way from Mumbai with Shabbir Kumar to perform here. Her exceptionally sweet and melodious singing hooked the audience to the hilt. She gave a solo and later, a duet performance with Shabbir Kumar.

Mohd. Rafi's contemporary, popular Punjabi singer and comedian K Deep (my mohan fame), Punjabi pop singer Dolly Singh, children's popular  artist & poet Kamaljeet Neelon (Sounja babua…), Harvinder Sohal and young female singer baby Hargun also paid tributes by their performances. Giddha and Bhangra dancers complemented the singers on the stage with their performance, while they sang, respectively.

Bikram Singh Majithia, MLA from Majitha graced the occasion as chief guest and lighted the ceremonial lamp along with K Deep and Zee Punjabi's editor Sanjay Vohra.

In his welcome speech Sanjay Vohra expressed his love for Mohd Rafi and also highlighted about the campaign' Gyan di Roshni' launched by Zee Punjabi last year from this platform only to address the cause of underprivileged children living in rural areas across the nation. Excited by the huge gathering of the local villagers, presence of eminent guests and celebrities from Bollywood participating, he said "I am sure with this kind of overwhelming response we will be able to do a bigger event next year and would successfully turn the attention of the world especially Rafi's fans to 'Kotla Sultan Singh where Rafi studied till class 4th".

Audience was taken aback to see the presence of popular Bollywood actor Raza Murad who walked in without any notice. “I am a die hard fan of Rafi sahib and couldn't think of giving this event a miss while being in Amritsar” justified Raza Murad, who was in Amritsar for a film shoot. Overwhelmed by emotions for Mohd Rafi he also sang a couplet which surprised everyone present there.
